Geocache Description:

This is a fun idea borne out of a discussion at the June GeoMunch. The basic idea: On September 10, 2005 get boaters and non-boaters coordinated for one heck of a geocachers' picnic (and hopefully BBQ!) on the shores of Government Island. At the same time, we all take turns "boatpooling" (like carpooling) to the various nearby island caches on the Columbia River!

THE BASIC IDEA: Boating and non-boating geocachers meet in the boat launch parking lot on September 10 at 9AM. The coordinates are for a parking lot with picnic tables nearby. We are going to gather at the picnic tables that are visible from the coordinates. We park, help the boaters launch. Then we hang out, talk, relax and take turns going out on the boats. Groups take turns going on intermittent excursions on the boats throughout the day to find all the caches on the nearby islands which are normally inaccessible to us landlubbers.

If we are lucky to have LOTS of boaters show up, enough to take the whole group at once, then we get to party on Government Island itself.

Boaters are to be allowed to charge 2 bucks max per passenger for gas money. They also get free FOOD and beer as our thanks for all their hard work. The rest of bring the potluck food... emphasis on main dishes of various types, or things that can be roasted in tabletop BBQ. Bring a hibachi!

It's a 5-dollar fee to park in the lot if you have just a car. That total of 7 bucks is one heck of a bargain when you think of what you'll pay for a 1.5 hr movie at Regal Cinemas complete with commercials... vs. a whole day of fun and caches on the mighty Columbia!

Meanwhile, if you are a boater, please let us know how manypeople who can fit in your boat and if you would not mind us "boatpooling" with you!

If you are not a boater, let us know if you are coming AND how many people you are bringing.
