Dad wrote a set of fictional semi-autobiographies, in which he
expresses his philosophy of education, while at the same time
exploring his own history and sense of self.
Benign Crucifixion, the first in the series, begins
beside a casket. Dr. David Bourne is viewing his departed father.
Dr. Bourne’s son remarks that this is the first time the 3
generations have been together in the same room. The novel is Dr.
Bourne’s reflection on how this came about; through personal
and group interactions at a small mid-west university, what brought
on his estrangement from his father, what did it lead to, how
widespread were the effects on Dr. Bourne, his family, his
friends?
