doerteh: Omdat ik binnenkort emigreer en deze cache ook nog eens niet heel erg 'veilig' en dus onderhoudsintensief is, archiveer ik hem. Als iemand interesse heeft, hem te adopteren, hoor ik het graag.

NL: Korte multicache (ca. 700m) langs kunstwerken rond het Harmoniegebouw. Het is wel een drukke locatie (vooral over dag), dus let op muggles!

EN: Short multicache (ca. 700m) along artwork around the Harmony builden. This is a very busy place, especially during office hours, so be aware of muggles!

Het Harmoniegebouw is een complex van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, gelegen aan de Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat. De oorspronkelijke Harmonie werd in 1856 gebouwd, de oudbouw van het huidige pand is het resultaat van een verbouwing in 1889-'90. De grote concertzaal - in de vorm van een fin de siècle "schoenendoos" - had een wereldberoemde akoestiek. In 1941 werd de bovenverdieping door een brand beschadigd. Tot een echte renovatie is het nooit gekomen, maar het gebouw werd nog jarenlang voor klassieke en hedendaagse concerten gebruikt, alsmede voor sportevenementen, tentamens, (auto-)tentoonstellingen, biljartavonden en feesten. Vanwege achterstallig onderhoud besloot de Groninger gemeenteraad in 1973 tot sloop van het complex, onder groot protest van de burgerij. De voorgevel is gerestaureerd en is nu het front van het in 1980 in gebruik genomen gebouw van de faculteiten Letteren en Rechtsgeleerdheid van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.
Deze multicache gaat langs vier kunstwerken rond het Harmoniegebouw. Bij elk kunstwerk moet een vraag beantwoord worden om de locatie van de container uit te vinden.

In het weekend en na 18:00 is de doorgang bij waypoint 2 afgesloten. Je kunt het kunstwerk echter wel door het hek heen bekijken en zo ook de vraag beantwoorden.

The Harmony building is a complex of the University of Groningen, located at the Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat. The original Harmony building was built in 1856, the old building of the current building is the result of a renovation in 1889 - '90. The large concert hall - in the form of a fin de siècle "shoebox" - had world famous acoustics. In 1941, the upper floor was damaged by fire. A real renovation never was executed, but the building was still used for many years for classical and contemporary concerts, as well as sporting events, examinations, (auto) exhibitions, billiard evenings and parties. Due to lack of maintenance the Groningen city council decided in 1973 to demolish the complex, under great protest from the citizenry. The facade has been restored and is now the front of the 1980 building occupied by the faculties of Arts and Law from the University of Groningen.

This multicache leads you to four artworks around the Harmony building. At each artwork you'll have to answer a question about it to find the location of the container.

During weekends and after 18:00 the passage with waypoint 2 is closed. You can, however, still see the painting through the fence.
