Ein Relikt des Kalten Krieges.

N49 13.390 E8 58.565
Während des Höhepunktes des "Kalten Krieges" wurden auf
auf speziellen Autobahnabschnitten sogenannte Notlandebahnen
eingerichtet. Sie sollten bei Zerstörung der normalen
(Militär-)Flughäfen als Ausweichflugpätze
dienen.
Aber schon während des zweiten Weltkrieges gab es schon solche
Autobahn-Landebahnen. Solche Landebahnen existieren nicht nur in
Deutschland, sondern in ganz Europa und sicher auch weltweit.

Der Cache ist in der Nähe des Kirchardt-Highway Strips. Es ist
eine der zuletzt erstellten Notlandebahnen.
Bei N49 13.332 E8 58.535 (Richtung W) und N49 13.304 E8 58.271
(Richtung O) sind die
typischen Parkplätze mit großen betonierten
Flächen als Stellplätze für die Flugzeuge.
Der Autobahnabschnitt ist
kerzengerade, ca. 2500 m lang, der Mittelstreifen ist
durchbetoniert, die Leitplanken können abgenommen
werden.
Bei N49 13.264 E8 58.729 ist ein Versorgungshäuschen, erstellt
1988.
Für den Tower ist bei N49 13.157 E8 59.303 die
Stellfläche zu finden (Richtung O).
Zu jeder Landebahn gehört auch ein breite Zufahrt, entweder
über die Parkplätze oder wie hier, N49 12.920 E9 00.763,
separat.
Der Cache kann nur noch "normal" geloggt werden.
Wenn man aber in Zukunft ein gerades Stück Autobahn sieht,
weiss man warum!

During height of "Cold War" highway strips were build on special
highway sections. They should be used as evasion airfields, if
regular military airfields would habe been destroyed.
However during WorldWar II, they build such highway strips as well.
Not only in Germany have been made such airfields, but also in
Europe and world wide.

The cache is placed near Kirchardt-highway strip. It's one of the
last build emergency airfields.
At N49 13.332 E8 58.535 (direction W) and N49 13.304 E8 58.271
(direction E) you will find the
typical parking places places with large concrete areas as
parking places for the airplanes.
The highway section is
bolt upright, about 1,553 mile (2500 m) long, median strip
completly concrete, guardrails could be removed.
At N49 13.264 E8 58.729 is a supply hut, build 1988.
For the tower is space at N49 13.157 E8 59.303 (direction E).
For each highway strip there is a large access road, over parking
places or like here at N49 12.920 E9 00.763, separately.
The cache could now logged "normal" only.
However, if you see in futere such a straight piece of highway, you
know why!
