Geocache Description:

A small 400ml snaplock container painted black that is well hidden. Parking is available nearby. Please take extreme care when approaching the cache site. See note below.

Welcome to Yellowhead.

Yellowhead is at the point of a small peninsula that overlooks Broad Bay and separates it from neighbouring Turnbulls Bay.

Broad Bay is a quiet little settlement and has much history attached to it. It is the home to the heritage listed Fletcher House, the first house of Fletcher Construction founder Sir James Fletcher.

Prominent in the middle of the bay is the Broad Bay Boating Club building and associated jetty. During the 1960's power boat races were regularly held in the bay. Potential changes have awoken the sleepy settlement as plans are made to demolish the local hall and build one community facility on the boat club site.

Access to the cache site is via the historic cemetery, which is also the starting point of GC10KET. Papa lived in Broad Bay when he was little, he remembers him and his brothers fishing off the jetty, finding octopus under the boat shed, and playing in the cemetery!!

Caution!!!

Access to the headland where the cache is located requires crossing a very narrow track with steep sides to the rocks below.

Do Not attempt if it is wet.
Take extreme care with children, or better still leave them playing in the cemetery.

Access to the cache should not be underestimated. If you need further convincing please read Poppy57's log notes in GC10KET.

When placed the cache contained logbook, pencil and sharpener. Please place the cache back how you found it.

Note: This cache has a special prize for First Time Finders - but only if it is the finders First First Time Find. (1st FTF). In this regard we ask that those of you who seek to claim First Time Finds please show a little restraint so that others can enjoy the opportunity.
