Geocache Description:

High in Colorado Challenge

I am sad to share the news that A of A & J - adrift has passed away.

Of our geocaches I believe that this one "High in Colorado" was his favorite (and he was the idea man behind all our geocaches and geocaching adventures). This was the one he was most proud of. The one that gave him the most pleasure because of the many enthusiastic logs; he enjoyed watching people's progress up the elevation list and then watching many go on to achieve even higher totals.

Thank you all for making his life and my life so much fun during his active geocaching years.

Now you should check status on meeting this challenge against the list of the highest 100 Traditional Caches Traditional Cache in the Challenge Checker at: Challenge Checker. For the purposes of this challenge, the list in the Challenge Checker should be considered official.

Special thanks to Ernie66 and Project GC for putting this Challenge Checker together.

PGC Checker

The Rules:
  • Log a find on a subset of the highest 100 Traditional caches (that you don't own) such that the sum of the elevation for those caches is at least 500,000 feet.
  • If a cache is dropped from the list due to archival, you can no longer count its elevation.
  • Find this final cache after completing the challenge with this list. Of course, any subsequent archives within the list will have no effect on your accomplishment.
  • Any find of this cache will be deleted if the challenge has not been successfully completed.
  • Only a single find per cache will be counted.
  • Caches you own will Not count, the checker will skip those caches and show you the 100 Traditional highest caches that do not include ones you own.
  • The checker will see new high Traditional caches when they are published so the lowest of the 100 will be dropped from the list.

After completing the challenge, the final cache can be found at the listed coordinates. The listed difficulty and terrain ratings are for the final cache. The difficulty in completing the challenge is entirely up to you.

When you approach the final cache, look down at the rocks a couple of hundred feet below the cache location. You'll see fossilized sea shells at 13,000 feet. After you find the treasure, you can bag nearby Treasury Mountain. However, take care. While it's a walk-up to the cache, from there to the summit is Class 2+ climbing with some exposure.
