Geocache Description:

Just a short hike north from the main parking lot on the blue trail. This is one of my favorite sections of the blue trail... lots of tree cover and ferns (and the rumble of traffic from Commack Rd.). Can't win 'em all!

Edgewood Hospital, which was located on this property for a good portion of the last century, was temporarily leased by the US Army during World War II to treat soldiers with phychological damage from the war. They dubbed it Mason General Hospital. I'm not here to give a history lesson, this is about the cache. If you want to learn more, do a search on Mason General Hospital or check out LI Oddities for a history and maps of the property.

Edgewood Oak Brush Plains is a great place for a walk or a ride and bring your dog too! This property is managed by the NYS DEC and a free permit is required to use this land.

Free DEC access permit

Just follow the instructions provided.... Fill out the permit online, email it, and print your own copy. Instant permit! How easy is that?
