Beautiful, little known sanctuary in Greene, ME. Views of Allen
Pond, Merrill Mt., White Mts.(after leaf fall). PLEASE NOTE: This
is private property. Please be respectful of the owners and their
desire to keep this a wildlife preserve. Use the trail coordinates
below. Keep noise and impact down. NO DOGS please. PLEASE PRINT AND
TAKE THESE INSTRUCTIONS ALONG. There are too many logs of people
taking the wrong trail, bushwhacking, and putting themselves in
danger.
You can park in the cleared area on the right side, several hundred
feet before the house at the end of South Mt. Road, off of Meadow
Hill Rd. There is also usually parking on the left across from the
house. The trail starts at the very end of the road. Go through the
two electric fences (unhook and re-hook). Depending on the time of
year, part of the trail can be through tall grass, and the rocks
can be slippery. Walk on this old road for about .6 mile to a trail
on the right, a little while after walking over a rocky section.
Coords are N44 13.109 W70 10.752. Travel up this trail, staying to
the left, to the ridge. THIS ROUTE WILL AVOID ANY UNNECESSARY
BUSHWHACKING. Great views at the cache. The edge is 30-50 feet from
where you will walk. Cache is a Martha Stewart 3 Qt. clear
container with lt. green top. Original contents are: Log book;
Special Yellow Monkey T.B.; Polymer clay crafts (by mom), including
a choker, moose magnet, and Phoebe cat pin; superball; emery
boards; mini-new testament; 2 AA batteries; 1935 wheat penny.
