ABOVE COORDINATES ARE BOGUS!
Most of you guys just want to hunt only the easy "Grab & Go" caches!
Well, this isn't one of them! How about exercising your brain a little and find this one!

Can you decypher the glyphs in the above pyramid and what it all means? |
This cache is in Wildcat Lake County Park, which is located along the Seabeck-Holly Road and East of Camp Union, WA. It's a medium size park with picnic tables, a sandy beach, a swimming area, a fishing dock and a childrens' playground.
*** PLEASE DO NOT BRING PETS OR ALCOHOL INTO THIS PARK ***

SO, WHAT'S IN THIS CACHE YOU ASK?
Everything in this cache and what you put into it
--- Must Be Blue ---
Exceptions: Travel Bugs & GeoCoins! |
INTERNET RESEARCH REQUIRED!
Don't look now, but you are about to learn something and it's about 2000 years old and from the time of the Mayans. So who were the Mayans, you ask? Well, they were a race of people who lived in Central America, long before man knew there was a world across Atlantic ocean. They contributed many things to our modern world, and one of their most notable accomplishments was to recognize the number Zero. If you don't think the number Zero is very important, then go to your local library and check out one of these books:
THE NOTHING THAT IS, A Natural History of Zero.
Written by Robert Kaplan, ISBN# 0-19-514237-3.
Printed by The Oxford University Press.
READING THE PAST, Maya Glyphs.
Written by S.D. Houston, ISBN# 0-520-06771-1.
Printed by The University of California/British Museum.
In our modern age, we count using a Base 10 or the Decimal System, but the Mayans used their own unique system. It was as efficient as our own, but required a different understanding of numbers.
Within our system, we have numbers of 1, 10, 100 and etc. This is commonly refered to as the Powers of 10. That means, if you multiply any number by 10, such as 5, it's next level is 50, and so on. When we write down numbers on paper, we write them from Top to Bottom and Left to Right, but the Mayans did it differently. |
| HERE'S WHAT TO DO! |
TASK #1: Find out what the Base ## system was used by the Mayans.
NOTE: Today, we use the Base 10 (i.e. 0 to 9) numbering systems, but the Mayans did not.
TASK #2: Calculate the Decimal values of each of the letters below: |
E =
D =
C =
B =
A =
NOTE: This puzzle's solution is knowing how to read & multiply Mayan numbers. |
TASK #3: Calculate separately the Multiplied Values of each letter: A, B, C, D & E.
NOTE: Letter A does not equal 1 nor does Letter B equal 2 and so on.
TASK #4: Add together ALL Multiplied Letter Values to obtain the Value of "X".
TASK #5: Add each digit of "X" to the next for the value of "Y"
NOTE: If X were: 1,234,567, then Y = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 28.
TASK #6: Now determine the final value of "Z" in this formula: Z = [ 8 x Y ] |
| N 47° 36.093 + .Z @ W 122° 46.071 + .Z |
| GOOD LUCK & HAPPY HUNTING !!! |
| ATTENTION: Do you remember when you were a kid and your mother told you to put away your toys when you were done playing? Well, please be so kind as to re-hide this cache equal to or better than it was when you found it! Also, please don't make it easier for fellow cachers to find it, including the many muggles that frequent this park daily. |
