Geocache Description:

The 13th Annual Cache In Trash Out Weekend is scheduled for April 25th and 26th, 2015. Why not come along and get involved in a beach clean on Par Beach? According to this, those attending CITO Events on either April 25th or 26th will earn a 2015 CITO Souvenir for their Geocaching profile.

This CITO event is being held with the kind permission and support of Cornwall Council

What?

This clean-up will take place on Cornwall Council’s Par Beach and the adjacent sand dunes.

Where?
We will meet at the listed coordinates, where parking is available.
Please note that there is a charge for parking - Up to 1 hour = £0.70 and 1-2 hours = £1.40
The terrain rating for this event depends on how adventurous you want to be – Some of the area is wheelchair accessible but the beach and paths over the dunes are not really suitable for wheelchairs.

When?
Saturday 25th April 2015 - Please arrive around 10:45AM as we will be setting off at 11:00AM, after a short Health & Safety briefing.
This event is scheduled to last for 1 hour and finish at 12:00PM.

Why Par Beach?
Par Beach is a Local Nature Reserve. It is managed for the enjoyment of all and is visited by lots of locals and tourists alike. There are a few caches on the sands and adjoining SW Coast Path and I think it is good to show that we are willing to give back to the people that allowed the caches to be placed.

How?
Bin bags, litter pickers and some funky vests (you don’t have to wear one!), will be supplied, courtesy of Clean Cornwall but please bring your own gloves. Removal of the rubbish we collect will be organised by Clean Cornwall.

Socialising Afterwards:
There is a convenient pub close to the parking. Food is available and well-behaved dogs are allowed in the bar. There is no need to book if you intend to come to the pub and wish to have something to eat, but please bear in mind it is a weekend lunchtime and there may be a wait for food.

Health & Safety/Risk Assessment:
Clean Cornwall's insurance will cover cachers taking part in this clean-up. However, they expect everyone in the group to be aware of the risk assessment for the work that we will be carrying out. Most of this is common sense, but it is there to ensure the safety of all.

The assessment is laid out as follows:

Hazard – People at risk – Risk level – Action required to reduce risk.

• Cuts to fingers from handling broken glass or sharp litter – Volunteers – Low – Wear gloves and don’t pick up broken glass directly – use a grabber.
• Slipping on slopes, particularly in wet weather – Volunteers – Low – Ensure that nobody works alone, or climbs up steep banks.
• Back injuries from heavy lifting – Volunteers – Medium – Work as a team when faced with heavy objects – If it is too heavy, don’t move it – just mark it as a waypoint and report it to the event organiser.
• Tripping over bags of cleared rubbish - Volunteers & the public – Low – Ensure all volunteers use the designated collection point away from the paths and walkways.
• Drowning in the stream or sea – Volunteers – Medium – The tide will be in during the event. Do not enter the sea or work alone near the stream.
• Injury from aggressive wildfowl – Volunteers – Low – All volunteers to give any wildfowl in the area a wide berth.
• Infection from needles – Volunteers – Low – Volunteers must not touch a needle if they find one. Any needles or drug paraphernalia needs to be left alone and reported to Cornwall Council on 0300 1234 202
• Catching a disease – Volunteers – Low – Gloves are to be worn for the work and hands cleaned thoroughly before eating food or drinking. Report any dead animals to the event organiser who will inform the Local Authority. If you do not like the look of something, do not touch it!

If you wish to come to this event, please post a Will Attend log, as if changes need to be made, I will make an announcement log and you will receive notification of the changes
