Geocache Description:

The 295th Street Bridge is a pin-connected, whipple through truss that spans 118
feet across the Shell Rock River. Only open to pedestrians, the bridge was
decommissioned in 1985 due to the new concrete bridge built nearby. The west
end of the bridge sits in Wilkinson Pioneer Park. In 1960, 80 acres were donated
by Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Wilkinson. At the north end, the park has complete camping
facilities. Sixty-six electrical sites are available, along with shower house,
firewood, dump station and water fill. The Wilkinson Park is a great place to have
a picnic or start a canoe ride along the Shell Rock River. Also the park has a
covered bridge and a rare remnant of native prairie at the south end of the park.

The covered bridge was originally constructed in 1969 and rebuilt in 1998 due to arson. It
made news as being the first covered bridge built in 25 years. The bridge is 50
feet long and is a lattice through truss design. It is open to one-lane traffic, but
during the winter months, the road is closed to traffic.
Come spend some time in
Rock Falls. It is a small but beautiful area.
