EVENtS at the RDGC... aka 'the style I stole from Summitt
Dweller'
Are you tired of all these quick one stop caches around Vinton? Do
you want to spend a long enough time there to really explore the
area?
Well, this tour the park waypoint by waypoint cache is for
you...but there's catch. You'll have to visit 4 waypoints before
you can locate the cache...and I'm only going to give you the
coordinates of 3 waypoints. You must find the 4th on your own.
Sure, it's an odd way to place a cache but it should not be too
difficult to solve this puzzle, all the waypoints are in the same
city park.
I walked less than half a mile to mark the waypoints and place the
cache...but I knew exactly where I was headed at all times. Your
mileage may vary. Not to fear, the terrain isn't too hilly, or bug
infested and is generally well-marked. There are even some seats
along the way if you need a break... or bring a lunch and 'dine
out'. There's even a playground where the kids can play. The whole
affair should take only about 15 minutes to complete.
If you find waypoints A thru C in order you should have no trouble
locating the final, key waypoint and cache. Along the way you'll
need to record a series of four 3-digit numbers, A thru D, one from
each waypoint. All of the waypoints are the same except for their
location and the information they present.
Waypoint A is at N42° 10.336' W92° 00.997' (The posted
coordinates)
Waypoint B is at N42° 10.358' W92° 00.992'
Waypoint C is at N42° 10.439' W92° 00.957'
Waypoint D is... for you to find.
The cache is located at N42° 10.xxx W92° 00.yyy, where:
xxx = (A + B + C + D) - 364
yyy = [(A - B) + C + D] + 599
You are likely to find some non-cacher's in the park at just about
any time (using the seats, picnic tables, playground or other
facilities) so please be discrete when you locate the cache. Also,
be carefull about how you approach each point, many have an obvious
course to follow, but a couple you have to detour around non public
places. Most of the area is open to the public, Public pool, rec
center, city park and river access, a few places (like a house and
private yard) are not.
The object you seek is a small, plastic dish. If you want to
trade, bring small items. IIRC the only things I could find in the
cache were the logbook, a hand warmer packet (hmm not helpful right
now), some small toy rabbit, and the Jerry the Shark Tb. Please
replace the container just where you found it so that passers-by
(and there will be many) are not likely to stumble upon it.
