Crossed Again Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Rat: This is another one that has gone missing too many times and is too far away to service regularly. The hiding place looked good but has proven to be otherwise. You can still work the acrostic if you like cryptics, but there is no cache.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates but is within 2 miles.
You can get to the cache site without encountering poison oak, but
there is some nearby so take care. The cache is accessible with one foot on the path.

This puzzle is a cryptic acrostic of the type made popular in
The Saturday Review by Doris Nash Wortman, Barry Tunick and Thomas
Middleton, among others. It is exactly like my cache A Crossed Stick
(GC1B3FC). If you've never done one, I suggest you
read up on them before trying this one. They look harder than they
are. Each of the 24 clues is a little puzzle of its own with the
concomitant hair-pulling and eventual "Aha" moment. For those used
to crosswords, note that the right edge of the grid does not
signify the end of a word. The black squares mark all the empty
spaces. When you solve the message in the grid you will have the
information needed to find the cache.

If you have trouble reading the images from this page, I have duplicated the acrostic on a separate web page
here
There is a pencil in the cache and room for small trade items.

Additional Hints (Decrypt)

[No need for a coordinate verifier since you will know you have it right if you solve it. There is parking information in the solution if you know where to look for it. Errata: when reading the vertical clue, switch the first letters for W and X. Those words are in the wrong order. Also the container description is no longer valid. BRING A PEN!]
