This cache is in the vicinity of the Hound's Tooth, a "prominent granite outcrop high on the ridge above Golden Hills and immediately south of Ferguson Canyon." This cache is recommended for experienced hikers in good shape and will take from 1 and a half hours to two hours to reach. Not recommended for small children.

Park at the trailhead located at

N 40 36.624'
W 111 47.292'

Look for the Water Tank above the homes.
It is recommended that you follow the ridgeline that is the south rim of Ferguson canyon. Locate the LDS chapel across Wasatch Dr. and use it as a landmark to remain west of yourself throughout the hike. The trail appears and disappears, but you should be able to pick up several animal trails. Wear long sleeves to avoid tree branches and tick bites (I found two ticks on myself). The cache is on top of the hill directly west of the Hound's Tooth. There is a meadow in a depression between the Hound's Tooth and the hill. (There is a large teepee made of wood about 300 yards SE of the cache, down in the low part of the meadow.) Elevation gain is 1833 feet from the parking area. Bring lots of water and enough food to keep you going. Elevation of the cache is 7134 feet. Make sure there are no more hills or slopes between yourself and the Hound's Tooth, and that you are able to view the complete west face of the structure.

The cache is in a mid-size ammo box and started with the following items:

Log book with pencil and sharpener
Simpsons Trivia game
2 bags of marbles
wood glider plane
3 mini-sport balls (you know, for kids!)
2 new kazoos
1 large bouncy ball
some fish
American flag sticker

Enjoy the hike and the view and bring something nice to put in the cache!

Da Homies and Thnikkaman hiked around the Hound's Tooth looking for a way to get on top. At this point we were precisely between the Hound's Tooth and the ridge that leads up to Broad's Fork Twin Peaks.

Found with himilecyclist on a loop hike that began at the new parking area for Ferguson Canyon. We found a trail that ascended from the south side of the water tanks, which we followed until we were close to Soaring With The Angels. We then went pretty much straight up toward the bump that's a bit north of the cache. We managed to stitch together enough game trails, meadows, and rocky areas that the bushwhacking wasn't bad at all. We started avoid the rocky areas, though, after a rattlesnake and I managed to startle each other. We got to the topin a bit under two hours. We found the cache easily enough, and were absolutely blown away to discover that peakbagginggeo had logged a find at roughly the same time we had started the hike. This for a cache that had been found only three times in the previous five years! Thanks for the hide. TNLNSL.

This cache was the main goal for the day on a great hike with lesdubois. We are working on the "Utah Well-Rounded Cacher" challenge, and this one gives us a 1.5/4. Imagine our surprise when we arrived at the cache and found it had already been visited today, just an hour or so earlier.

It's in great shape. We continued on down to the original Hound's Tooth and got that one as well. No ticks and no snake bites. It was a good day. Thanks!

0955/03JUN2010...WHOYA!!! AN EASY FIND, BUT A TOUGH CLIMB. 1HR 45MIN FROM CAR TO CACHE WITH A SHORT STOP AT "HOUND'S-TOOTH CACHE" (GC2AF) ON THE WAY. I DID A LOT MORE BUSHWACKING ON THE WAY UP. IT WAS EASIER TO SELECT THE PROPER ROUTE ON THE WAY DOWN. THE VIEW WERE AWESOME-WELL WORTH THE EFFORT. TFTC.

I had quite a time getting up trough all the scrub oak, and the weather turned terrible. The good part was that it was the temperature was cool. With about .25 mile left it started to rain. The valley was pretty much socked-in. I will have to come back and enjoy the view (beautiful!) on a better weather day. I could not have gotten more wet if I would have stood under a firehose. The cache is in great shape! I took the cache-u-nut and left some money (forgot my geocoin). SL, TFTC! -pfeifferhorn

After my defeat in December I have been waiting some time to do this one again. I took the recommended route and it was not that bad. The entire trip took 2 1/2 hours. There was a lot of bushwacking as promised. The spines on the way up still had plenty of snow and made for an easier trip to the top.

I found the cache in great condition. The last guy who found this cache didn't sign the log. I took a Simpson's trivia game and left a Cache-U-Nut. I saw the tepee from a distance and then headed back to the car.

Great Cache! Attached are some pictures.
