This is NOT a place to take lightly. You will have to approach the cache itself from the south and above, but not in snow, not in ice, not in rain, not by flashlight, not while looking at the GPS instead of your feet. It's SOOO worth the trip, but be careful. We really wanted to hike up from below, but the last 60' or so is not an option unless you are very strategic about it and don't mind a seriously challenging hike with a big old circle at the end. For the high road, you get a good dirt road, then eexpect to travel cross country through the usual forest territory, plenty of brush and rough ground, and then you get to the last 50 feet, and it gets INTERESTING, like we said. This is boot territory, and jeans wouldn't be a bad idea either, and you undertake this all at your own risk. Bring a camera, because it's amazing. Do not flirt with the edge...signing the log is always optional, but making it back alive is not. This is loose footing over the top of really serious volcanic rock, and I've never seen clinkers like these...you could seriously die here. Make sure someone knows where you are and when to expect you back, and don't tackle this alone. (Check out the cheater photos before you go...it's actually well-hidden, too, because a perfect spot presented itself.)
