Geocache Description:

I wanted to do a series cache for quite some time now. I’ve been thinking and thinking and pretty much coming up empty handed. Finally with some nudging from wildraynorris and pinbow, we were able to come up with this series, which represents one of the largest (if not the largest) spectator sport in the US. It also helps that it’s my favorite sport to follow!

Until recently, I never knew there were NASCAR sanctioned events in the Augusta area. As it turns out that in the 60’s, there were several races held at Augusta International Speedway.

The most notable race ran at the speedway was the Augusta 510, which was raced on November 17, 1963. The race was actually only 417 miles because of a time limit. Glenn "Fireball" Roberts won the race. This would be the last race he would win. He died July 2, 1964 due to injuries received in a crash that happened in the World 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24, 1964.

Today, only portions of the orignal track remain. It is now known at Diamond Lakes Park, which contains baseball fields, tennis courts, picnic areas, fishing ponds and a library.

The above coordinates are near the parking area.

In order to find the coordinates to the final location, use the following web page to match the correct name with the 2010 Pit Crew member’s surname. http://www.wyldrob.com/geocaching/pitchart.html

Each cache in this series will contain a pit crew job/title. Use the link above to match title to the correct surname. Use the number of letters in the surname to complete the coordinates.

Final Coordinates:

N 33° 21. (B-1) 2 (C-4) W 082° 0A . E 1 (D-5)

I hope everyone will enjoy this series as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together.

There is a FTF prize!

There is room for tradable items in the container. As much as we would like for this to be a themed cache, it isn't necessary.

Please note that park hours are 7 AM until dusk!

***Congratulations to objuan and EarlyBigBird for FTF!!***
