Geocache Description:

This is a pleasant short walk on part of the Severn Way path with one short fairly steep hill. Take care if you have children or dogs as the path is very close to a steep cliff which is not securely fenced off in places.

This is my first cache and so it should not be too difficult to find. I suggest parking at the Severn View services on the English side of the Old Severn Bridge. The large Service area is now a Technology centre due to the large decrease in traffic since the opening of the New Severn Crossing in 1996. There is, however, a Little Chef restuarant near the petrol station if you need refreshments.
The viewpoint at 51 36.321 N and 2 37.614 W gives excellent views of both bridges. The old Severn bridge was opened on 8th September 1966 by Queen Elizabeth. It replaced the ferry crossing between Aust and Beachley. The river is 1 mile wide at this point with a main span of 3240ft. There is a cycle and footpath if you feel fit !
The cache is hidden about 0.6miles from this point on the Severn Way path which is sign-posted.
This is a beautiful walk, particularly in fine weather and you may wish to take a picnic and enjoy the view.
The cache is a white screw-capped bottle and the original contents were :- a glue stick, a Barbie pen, balloons, a highlighter, a permanent marker, sand paper, sparkle nail varnish, a box of chalks, a millenium bug and a log-book.
Have fun. This is one of my favourite walks so I hope you enjoy it. Aust cliffs are well-known to fossil hunters so if this is another of your hobbies why not have a look !
