On November 8th, 2008, Circuit City Stores announced the immediate
liquidation and closure of 155 retail stores across the country.
#3671 in Freehold, NJ was among those slated for closure in an
effort to save the company from total bankruptcy.
I have a somewhat unique point of view on these events, since I
had put the previous 5 years of my life into that store as a sales
associate, computer technician, and manager.
During my tenure, I personally sold nearly a million dollars in
inventory, fixed two thousand computers, and called the police for
various reasons 12 times.
Closing the store was difficult for everyone involved, not just
for the customers that shopped there, but for the dozens of
employees working there. Following are some memories of life at
Circuit City during and after the closing. I wish I had some
pictures of when the store was fully operational, but I never
thought I would need a picture to remember the store when it was
alive.
