Salter's Hall Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Woppy: I went to swap the log today but could not find it. As I no longer travel to this part of London I have regrettably had to archive it. Sorry ;(

Geocache Description:

Nano within easy reach. Bring a pen, and ideally some tweezers to get the log out! Watch out for muggles!

This cache is close to Salter's Hall. Before the days of refrigeration salt was the means of preserving meat and fish. Founded in 1394 the Salter's Company dealt in salt, imported from Western France, flax, hemp and chemicals such as potash. As a consequence the company, with its long history of supporting education, now supports the chemical industry and has a large number of scientists associated with it.

Around 1660 Fore Street saw the birth of Daniel Defoe, (now buried nearby in Bunhill Fields). He'd no doubt be disappointed to know that that the Moorgate end of the street recently won an award for being 'the most boring street in London'.

The cache site marks where the very first bomb landed on the square mile of the City of London in 1940.

Note: Being as the area is in central London you'll have to watch out for muggles! Also, if you're spotted by the local constabulary, please be open and explain what you're doing and, you never know, you may win over a new caching convert :-)
