Geocache Description:

Interesting park with historical display.

The Cracker Trail was one of the primary routes for cattle drives in the mid to late 1800s. It approximately follows what is now SR 66 east of US 17 and SR 64 west of US 17. The cowboys drove the cattle with herding dogs and bull whips, hence the term Cracker came to be associated with the cowboys. Bone Mizell was one of the more notorious cowboys well known for his stunts and drunks. It is reported he sometimes took his profits from cattle sales and chartered a steamer to carry him and his friends up and down the Kissimmee River for days and nights of lavish feasting and rinking. One trip reportedly cost him $9,000.

As this is a virtual cache, for confirmation of your visit please send me an email with Bone Mizell's full name. This will be found on a historical plaque near the cache coordinates.

This park's historic area includes a blacksmith shop, a post office, a cane processing display, a locomotive and several other outdoor displays, for your viewing at no charge. The indoor museum display costs $1.00 per person and is worth seeing for the introduction to the life of pioneers in this part of the country.

The cages to the south of the historic displays were once a zoo of Florida animals. I remember deer, bear, otters, racoons, bobcats, foxes and of course alligators. Now there are only empty cages, as it should be.

Enjoy, and cache responsibily!!!
