Geocaching 101 with Hancock Park District
April 21, 2012
Are you new to geocaching? Are you an experienced veteran? Somewhere in between? We hope to see all of you at Oakwoods Nature Preserve in Findlay, Ohio for this program!
We will host a informal presentation, held in the "Doc" Phillips Discovery Center. Presentation will start at 1:00 pm. This will be an opportunity for new geocachers to learn from experienced geocachers…
- What is geocaching?
- How did geocaching start?
- What makes a geocache?
- What is GPS and how do I use a handheld GPS unit?
- How do I find a geocache?
- How do I hide a geocache?
After the small presentation, we will break up into groups combining cachers of varying experiences to find geocaches hidden in Oakwoods Nature Preserve.
We encourage experienced geocachers to come and help guide the small group hunts. If you’ve been to an event cache before, you know what fun it can be! You can also ask individuals questions regarding paperless caching, including the use of GSAK and Cachemate.
Bring your geogear if you have some, but if you’re new a GPS isn’t required!
Oakwoods Nature Preserve is located at 1400 Oakwoods Lane, Findlay Ohio (off County Rd 144).
