Eris (2003 UB313) Eris is the most massive known dwarf planet in the Solar System and the ninth most massive body known to orbit the Sun directly. Twenty-seven percent more massive than Pluto; Eris is the object that is responsible for demoting Pluto from planet status. It is a trans-Neptunian object (TNO) native to a region of space beyond the Kuiper belt known as the scattered disc and has one known moon, Dysnomia. With the exception of some comets, Eris and Dysnomia are currently the most distant known natural objects in the Solar System.
The team that discovered Eris, originally named it Xena after the heroine of the television series Xena: Warrior Princess. Immediately, the doomsayers claimed that now there was proof of Planet X. While Eris' orbit is 557 years, about every 3600 years Eris and Earth are is at their closest perigee. This perigee frequency lines Eris up several of Earth natural desarsters. "Noah's flood" occured 7200 years ago and consisted of sudden changes in temperature and violent storms. The Jews' Exodus from Egypt 3600 years ago coincides with the parting of the Red Sea. Is Eris the current culprit in the recent rash of hurricanes, tornatos, floods and our global warming crisis?
At this point, the only crime Eris is guilty of is killing Pluto's planetary status, but as for the fate of the human race, I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
