-Rusty-: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. Geocache Description:

Welcome to my first cache!!!  I have considered the Cherry Capital Airport my home for the last 8 years and I would like to share that with you!  Cache is located in the airport observation parking lot on the west side of the airfield.

Cache has been placed with permission of the Traverse City Cherry Capital Airport Management

There are a few rules to this cache…

Rule 1: Hours are from 7a to 10p. The airport maintains this parking lot and closes the gates at night.

Rule2: NO climbing fences

Rule 3: HAVE FUN!!!!!

Rule 4: Tune into the tower frequency and listen to the local air traffic! Its COOL! And adds to the experience!!! (AM radio station is listed on the sign on the fence)

The Cherry Capital Airport main terminal has three air carriers; Delta, United, and American Airlines.  On the opposite side of the field with a bright blue roof is the Northwestern Michigan College school of aviation.  To the west of that building is the United States Coast Guard Air Station, where you will regularly see bright orange helicopters coming and going.  In front of the Coast Guard is North Flight which provides emergency medical transportation.  Further west are two air traffic control towers, one of which was just recently completed.  The old commercial air carrier terminal used to be located on the north side of the field where the new tower currently stands.  A bit north of the control towers is Harbour Air, the only FBO on the field.  They provide ground service to all private aircraft that land in Traverse City.   The smaller light blue buildings are the T hangars -aka- airplane garages that are rented by aircraft owners.  The name comes from the shape of the inside of the hangar which is cut out like a T to fit the aircraft inside.  The airport observation parking lot is a place people like to park during their lunch or when we have our annual air show!  It’s a unique place in the heart of Traverse City that I would like to share with you!
