Less than 1/4 mile hike. Very steep climb. Put a leash on your kids. Parking located at N 41 42.672' W 095 57.600' The cache is accessible in the winter when there isn't any snow or mud.

You are looking for a small peanut butter jar. There is not a theme for this cache. This cache is located in the loess hills (pronounced LUSS) on a ridge with amazing views. Bring your camera and binoculars and plan to stay a while. On a clear day you can see the Old Market (downtown Omaha). This site is the home of my 2005 winter campout. You can hike the ridge toward the north for nearly 2 miles to view more prairie and Iowa forests but you will be tired when you return.
The Loess Hills are up to 200 feet thick with wind blown soil deposits. The loess is about 125' thick at this location. The formation is about 200 miles long through western Iowa. It took thousands of years for the hills to accumulate. The soil originated from the recession of glaciers about 12,000 years ago. The only other loess landscape is found in China.
The native forests and prairie along the way have never been turned by a plow. This area is managed with prescribed fire every 2-3 years to keep the prairie vigorous and promote oak regeneration. The woods were thinned in 2005 to remove weed trees and promote oak regeneration.
