Geocache Description:

I like road trips. On my recent one to GeoWoodstock 7 I got the idea for this challenge.

Hope you like it, enjoy.

Please obey all posted rules & regulations of the site where the container is located.

The cache is at the posted coordinates but you must follow the requirements below in order to log it! Please read the entire cache page.

The Requirements:

In order to qualify to log this challenge cache you must do one (or more if you like)of the 3 following things:

Find or have found a cache in 5 different states, including Illinois, on the same day.

Find or have found a cache in 7 different states, not including Illinois, on the same day.

Find or have found a cache in 12 different Illinois counties on the same day. You get an extra pat on the back if you do it this way using the 12 counties that GONIL used to cover- Boone, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Will and Winnebago.

Additional rules:

1: All finds must be listed on this website. Caches listed on other websites are not allowed.

2: Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for logging a cache find apply. You must physically visit, locate, sign the log and log your find online for all the caches you claim for this challenge. You also need to meet all other requirements listed on the cache page, if there are any.

3: You can't claim finds on caches you own unless you found them prior to adopting them.

4: This cache can count towards the requirements.

5: Cache types you can use for this challenge: Traditional- , Multi- , Unknown- , Letterbox Hybrid- , WhereIGo- or APE- .

6: For the purposes of this challenge the posted coordinates of all caches will determine which county or state they can be claimed for.

7: 'Same day' for this challenge means from 12:00.01am til 11:59.59pm on any one specific date.

8: Finds by accounts with more than one person on them will need to have at least one of those persons present when all caches are found.

Verification:

To verify your finds, make a bookmark list of them. Make the list public and include this cache on it. Keep it for at least one week after you log your find here.

You can do verification after logging your find but your log may be deleted if it's not done within 7 days.

Logging:

To log the find online you must, of course, go to the coordinates and sign the log. No pre-logging allowed- only signatures entered in the logbook upon or after completion of the challenge will count as an official find.

Please follow the above regulations to keep things fun, and fair, for everyone. Failure to follow them will result in your log being deleted.

The Cache:

You are looking for a 2.5 quart lock 'n' lock container covered in camo paint. The terrain rating is for the actual cache placement while the difficulty rating reflects what I think the challenge warrants. I think they should be pretty accurate- after you have found it, let me know what you think. After logging in please replace the container as found, or better if called for.

Please note: There may be a parking fee of $2 at the nearby lot. Also- the lot is closed for at least part of the winter. You might be able park near the gate but you do so at your own risk.

FTF:

The FTF can take the special FTF smashed penny (courtesy of Snoogans) and any one other item. 2TF and 3TF may take one item of their choice. After that, please trade responsibly.

FYI:

In case anyone is wondering: yes, I have done this myself- during the road trip mentioned at the top of the page. It was on May 25th, 2009 while on the way home from GeoWoodstock 7. On that day I found a cache in Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee (traveling @ 850 miles in under 24 hours to do it). I have also done it the county way- on 11/11/07 while on a road trip for the Illinois All County & Illinois DeLorme challenges I found caches in these 15 Illinois counties: Boone, Bureau, Carroll, Henry, Jo Davies, Kane, Lee, Marshall, Mercer, Ogle, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Stephenson & Whiteside. I have not done it using the GONIL counties- yet.

Update:

Since this cache was published I've been on a few more memorable road trips.
The first was in Nov., 2010 with Coyote Trust to get Mingo as my 10K milestone. We traveled thru 12 states (IL, IA, NE, MO, KS, CO, OK, NM, TX, LA, AR & TN) and cached in 11 of them (all but TN). We traveled @3100 miles and did it in @99 hours.
The second was a solo trip in June/July, 2011 on the way to Geowoodstock 9. In @75 hours I traveled @2000 miles while passing thru 15 states (IL, IN, OH, WV, PA, MD, DE, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, NH, ME & VT) and caching in 14 of them (all but IL).
The third was on 10/26/12 in quest of another road trip challenge. On that day badlands, salz69 and I traveled @1120 miles while caching in 7 states (IA, IL, IN, MI, MN, OH & WI) in @24 hours.
