ROTSIP: As the owner was unable to archive the cache some months ago, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

This Cache is a wonderful way to spend a hot summers day, with lots of pools to cool you off.

This cache is in the Steenbras Nature Reserve, just past Gordons Bay. Permits are available from Sunbird Lodge, just a bit before the start of hike. Sunbird lodge co-ords are:
S 34° 11.485
E 018° 49.219

If you go on the weekend, you might want to phone to reserve permits, as only 40 people allowed on trial per day.
Phone - 21 856 1740

Alas, dogs are not allowed.

This walk is best done on a hot summers day, and be sure to bring a costume along, and maybe a picnic.
It can be done in under 3 hours, but this is one of my favourite places in the Cape Peninsula, so I recommend spending the whole day here.

Drive through Gordons Bay, and park at 34° 11’765S, 018° 49’315E. Cross the road, and take path before the bridge by watch hut, which soon leads down to the river. Follow river, and head left over ridge at 34° 11’64S, 018° 49’48E.
From here you are on your own. You can follow the path all the way to the top (although it does get a bit confusing heading up towards cache – persistence will get you there in the end). If you want to take the fun route, waterproof your bags, and at the split level pool (where abseil Africa often abseil into lower pool), swim across top level, climb up other side, follow river, swim across next pool, climb up other side where root sticks out of cliff into pool, and you’ll find yourself at bottom of main waterfall. Turn left here to head up to top of waterfall and cache site.

Cache is 2l Ice cream tub, hidden in a crack, covered with rocks.

Watch out for baboons. I had a recent scary experience here with a troop of them.
