Chestnut Ridge Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

VirginiaSeeker: This area has changed being overrun by JMU making it difficult to have a larger size cache remain un-muggled. Still an interesting area for geocachers so perhaps a smaller one in the future?

Geocache Description:

A short hike in a historic spot on east side of Harrisonburg. Altitude - 1475 feet.

A bit of local history was made on this hillside. Take time to read the signs and try to envision the way things might have looked that fateful day. Now suburbia is rapidly encroaching.

When you reach the coordinates, you will be standing before the reason for this historic site. The cache is about 160 feet almost due east (bearing is approximately 110 degrees). The cache is an ammo box and contains three books -- The Quotable Fisherman, A Painted House, and The Memoirs of U. S. Grant. Please bring a paperback book to exchange. There is also a log and pencil/pen.
