Buck Mountain Overlook Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

If you don't plan to get a permit, please remove your geocache so it doesn't become geo-trash.

Geocache Description:

Buck Mountain has long been the home of some outstanding viewpoints and of late, has also been the home of GeoGuru's notorious Buck Mountain Summit Micro Challenge cache (see link below for nearby caches). This cache was placed so those who fail to find GeoGuru's cache, don't go home empty handed and for anybody who would like a nice walk to a scenic spot.

The best ways to access this cache are to park either at the Otter Hole parking area on Glenwild Ave, or a very small parking spot (space for 1 car) at the Highlands Trail trailhead on Otter Hole Road.

Starting from the parking area on Glenwild Ave. makes for a slightly longer, but far more interesting walk. Bring your binoculars!

Coming from either direction, it's an easy walk along marked trails with a short, but stiff climb involved. The 3 star terrain rating stems from the rocky area immediately surrounding the cache. For most of the walk, the terrain is no more than 2 stars.

While searching for this, at certain points you will be in view of anybody standing at the overlook above, so try to make sure you aren't being watched.

Bicycles not permitted on paths Dangerous area - use caution No restrooms available
Steep Hike More than Half a Mile from Trailhead
