The Copper People Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Lurch77: This has been a nice cache for several years. But after the recent theft of the cache by a person that does not understand geocaching (the note left behind suggested they thought of it as littering), I take it as a sign it is time to close it up. I've had less and less time for regular maintenance anyway. Hopefully someone else will take advantage of this great park and place another cache here. Thank you all for the fun.

Geocache Description:

Located in a state park, with trails that vary from muddy to hard pack, depending on the season. Terrain is mostly wooded, somewhat hilly, and can be slippery when muddy.

Come visit Wisconsin's oldest cemetery, dated back 6000 years. This is a small state park, with basic amenities during summer months. There is a small museum open on weekends during the summer as well. The park encourages use of it's large picnic area, fields, and wooded trail system. The trails lead down to the Oconto River, where great fishing can be found, so bring your fishing pole! There are no fees to enter the park. See the web page link at the top of this page for more info.

Please stay on the trails, and follow the river, which loops around to the cache area. The cache is a small .50 cal ammo can. And remember, this is northern WI, pack your skeeter spray during the warmer months, and watch for itch weed and other bad guys. Read the log comments below for a good idea of current conditions.

New driving directions: The highway bypass of nearby Oconto is done. It is easier than ever to get to the park now. Take the highway 22 exit near Oconto. There are two roundabouts at this exit, make your way to the west roundabout and follow the signs to the Copper Culture State Park.
