Geocache Description:

A Mystery Cache that will probably require you to do some research on the web.

When we are out geocaching in the woods we are often reminded that this land we are enjoying was not always so "organized" (e.g. into concession blocks, conservation areas, carefully groomed trails, neatly tended parks and the like, let alone concrete jungles). Instead it was shared between the wildlife that we like to observe while out on a tupperware hunt and the people who lived here before the Europeans discovered it and started making their mark on it.

When we got to thinking about this, an idea occurred to us for a "puzzle cache" to honour that culture. A culture that is struggling to survive in the face of "progress". We thought that if we could create a cache that would require seekers to do a bit of research about those who enjoyed this land in earlier days, it would hopefully spread at least a little bit of knowledge about that culture a bit further. This is our first attempt at such a cache. It would be interesting to hear people's reactions about what they have learned while figuring out this "puzzle".

As always with a mystery cache, the published co-ordinates are not the right ones. In fact they are the coordinates for where we parked when we set the cache. To find out the actual coordinates you will have to visit the Geofellas website where you will be able to hear the individual digits of the minutes part of the coordinates of the actual cache. You will have to "Listen for the Numbers".

Unless you already understand this language you will then have to do some research to find out what language you are listening to and thus what the digits of the coordinates are. The answers ARE available on the internet - we found them by doing exactly the kind of searching you will need to do to solve this puzzle. Our hope is that you will also discover a lot of other new information on the way to finding that solution. The language is one that might have been commonly spoken around here a few hundred years ago. If we have achieved the goal of raising the general awareness of a culture and of this language that can only be a good thing!

The cache itself is a standard regular cache in a standard regular sort of place. The difficulty comes from figuring out where exactly that place is. Once you think you have it, feel free to check with us to be absolutely sure before heading out. Please don't put anything in your logs to make the research too easy for others (such as a web address or the name of the language) - if you give anything like that away it spoils the fun and the whole point of the cache and we would have to ask you to edit your posting. We're certain we have provided enough information here for most people to find this.
