When I was 2 years old, I lived in the small town of Scio, Oregon. Scio is a very, very small town. I lived there until I was 11. We had cows, horses, goats and about 38 chickens. When I was 18 years old, I worked on a small ranch in northern Arizona where were chickens and a combination of other farm animals. If you know Arizona, you know that there are wild pigs called javelina that roam the countryside. They're very scary looking creatures with large sharp tusks. Part of my job was making sure the chickens were locked in their coop at night. Being a city boy most of my life and having ZERO experience dealing with wild pigs, I always carried a shotgun with me just in case I was confronted by them. Every night I would go out with that shotgun and a flashlight to make sure all the chickens were in and lock up the coop. It was a Friday night when there they were, the biggest, meanest, ugliest javelina you ever saw! I had visions of them attacking me, goring me with those long sharp tusks. In my rush to shoot at them, I dropped the shotgun and it went off, killing 10 chickens!
