Connors Lake Park is a mecca for dogs and their owners, featuring a year-round off-leash exercise area as well as trails for skijoring. It's also home to a healthy population of moose, and a rare loon nesting site.
The north side of Connors Lake includes a year-round off-leash exercise area. Around the south side of the lake lies the area dedicated in winter to skijoring (skiing behind up to three dogs, attached by harness to the skier). Please note - dogs must be leashed in this area when trails are groomed in winter, or when loons are on the lake nearby in summer.
This cache is dedicated to the Ladybug Kids caching team - all of whom know how to get out on the trail with the toughest athletes in Alaska (their dogs!). Shown here is Daddy Ladybugs behind teammates Ingrid, Mons, & Jack in a Skijor Race at Creamers Field in Fairbanks Alaska.
Access to this part of the park is from the east end of 62nd Avenue, off Collins Way. Please respect local residents' property, and parallel park along the wood guardrail only. The cache is a short stroll along very visible trails through the spruce bog, bordering the south edge of Connors Lake. Be alert for skijor participants on the trails in the winter (fast and fairly quiet - just step off the trail a couple of feet and wait calmly while they pass). Hike on existing trails - this part of the park harbors a healthy moose population that uses the wooded areas of the spruce bog for cover! Summer visitors will enjoy the peace a headnet provides...
