Event Time:
Saturday, August 1st, 5:00 pm - Midnight
(With Activities all Day Leading Up to the Event)
Event Details:
This year we're taking you to Shrine Pass, East of Red Cliff, CO. At 8,800 feet elevation, we should be in for a wonderful evening of geocaching, camping, and other fun stuff! You can access Shrine pass from I-70 / Exit 190 (Rest Area, a little over 6 miles)) or from Hwy 24 / Red Cliff (a little less than 8 miles). Shrine Pass is a busy dirt road, with lots of little bumps and water puddles to splash in. It is suitable for passenger cars and RVs, but you'll likely want to slow down for some of the bumps.
Make sure you bring chairs and a beverage of your choice. Burgers and hotdogs will be provided but there will be room on the grill if you want to throw a slab of meat on it. Feel free to bring a side dish if you're up for it! All geocachers are encouraged to attend the event, regardless of participation in the daytime 4x4 run (see below for details).
Note: There are * no * bathrooms at the event site. Also, this event is not officially a camping event, but free camping is available, with space available for RVs and pop-ups as well as tents.
Dinner Plans:
Dinner will be served at approximately 6:00 pm. Team Red Rubicon will be providing Hamburgers and Hotdogs for all attendees free of charge.

4x4 Bear Award - To be handed off annually.
The bear was carved and graciously donated by jmike for the 2007 4x4 event raffle. Sting25 won it at that event after having a little mishap on the trail during that day. Sting25 agreed to give the bear up to the next victim lucky person and the plan was hatched to make the bear an annual award. Joe Friday won the bear at the 2014 4x4 event. Who will win it this year and what mishap accomplishment will it be awarded for this year?

Trail Plans:
Ptarmigan Pass / McAllister Gulch loop
Ptarmigan Pass is a relativity uneventful rocky trail with plenty of water crossings. You will climb above treeline before dropping back down and joining McAllister Gulch. The 'tough' parts of Ptarmigan are not along the planned route. Once on McAllister gulch, we'll climb back up to treeline and have an optional hill climb to 11,700 feet (Resolution Mountain).
Route plan: Meet at the posted coordinates no later than 9am. If you have camping gear, feel free to drop it off/setup camp. Be ready to depart by 9:15am.
We will head West to Hwy 24, then down to Ptarmigan Pass trail head to air down.
* Due to the number of vehicles on the run and the higher use of Shrine Road we will not be stopping for any caches on Shrine Road.
Meeting Plans for the 4x4 run:

Meeting Location: Posted coordinates (campsite). It is a (estimate) 35 minute drive from the campsite to the start of the trail.
