Geocache Description:

A quick and easy drive-by cache at a slightly strange (even for me) location.

CHEQUERED HISTORY (Bucks)

The point where the Aston Abbots to Wingrave road crosses the A418 Aylesbury to Leighton Buzzard route is a dull corner of the world. The only thing of vague interest is a rather drab little bus shelter. So why put a MICRO cache here? Well, it's because this is one of those places that tens of thousands of people pass each day with little or no thought to it. A plaque on the side of the shelter gives some surprising local history. Just what was it that happened here?

A) Was this crossroad the site of a gibbet where the bodies of three women and a man found guilty of witchcraft were displayed from 1639 to 1678?

Or B) was it near this spot that famous Highwayman 'Black Bob' was finally apprehended on a chill November day in 1794?

C) Perhaps it was in the field behind the shelter, on July 12th 1910, that the Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls (of Rolls Royce fame) was killed when the tail of his biplane snapped off?

Or is it D) None of the above? Something even more 'random'?

There's only one way to find out - visit! Since this isn't the most aesthetically amazing spot I've kept things 'interesting' by deliberately not including a clear clue. All I'll say is you're looking for a black 35mm film container. If people struggle I'll add a little hint in due course.

Happy hunting!

A small experiment - Please feel free to rate your visit to this cache out of ten in your log.
