This is a Driftless Area 10K Tribute Cache for Rushford's infamous Caching Monkey!
Brett has been a real asset to the caching community, promoting Geocaching through his many events, e-mails, online log messages, interaction with cachers in the field and by serving on the Iowa Geocachers Organization board. Brett has placed 153 caches for the enjoyment of fellow cachers including 22 EarthCaches for which he has a penchant and talent for developing. Thanks and WooHoo for you!
This cache will take you on top of the much photographed bluffs along the Upper Iowa River near Bluffton. Here you can sign Brett's Tribute cache and get your own personal calendar view of these bluffs.
Park along side the road, don't drive in. You should see an area where your vehicle can be safely parked just off the traveled portion of the road. You will be directly across from a farm drive (3294). This road is busy with canoe shuttles on weekends. You will need to proceed straight down to the trees. While the weeds may be thick they are user friendly, though the ground is uneven with gopher mounds.Once at the treeline the vegetation disappears and it is a pleasant walk. You will be able to locate a trail along the ridge, take it to the Right for about 40' and then head down a gradual slope to a large pine tree. This tree lies just before a point of land that juts out here. Please do not throw anything off up here as it may land on a canoeist below. Hang onto something, sign the cache and take in the view through the cedars to your left!
WARNING!
You will be walking out on top of one of these bluffs 150' above the shallow rocky Upper Iowa River far below-- Cliff Diving here is Not an Option!! Do not attempt this cache at Night or under slippery conditions. The Biggest Danger here would be a slip on pine needles or pine cones or a trip on a stick or stone. Use Caution and Common Sense and Go SLOW. No climbing is involved and you should not be venturing too unreasonably close to the drop offs or going down any steep slopes. If you do not feel comfortable here and some definitely will not then Please do not attempt this cache. This is a short walk and for the most part an easy walk but due to the sheer drop-offs and the need to watch where you are going the terrain rating has been raised.
