This cache was placed in memory of my brother's good friend, who was killed along with almost 3,000 other Americans on 9/11/01. Located in Ramapo Mtn State Forest. Park in lower parking lot off Skyline Drive. GPS will indicate about a half mile as the owl flies, from the parking lot. If you follow the recommended route, the walk in is closer to a mile.
For the easiest route take blue trail towards Ramapo Lk dam then make a left at dam, then take another left on the yellow/red blazed (Hoeferlin) trail. Continue to overlook (N41.02.016,W74.15.786), an open rocky area with scrub pines and and outstanding view of lake and the mountins to the west. Do not attempt a direct bushwack from the parking lot unless you are fit and outdoor savvy. A direct bushwack changes the terrain to at least 4 stars.
