Geocache Description:

On our way from Twyfelfontain to Swakopmund we drove through the Skeleton Coast Park and visited some of the wrecks at the beach. But while we were looking for a place for lunch we came to this lostplace.
It was a man called Ben du Preez who tried to find oil in addition to diamonds in the Namib desert in the late 60's and early 70's. Therefore this oil rig was installed.
But what did Jimi Hendrix sing about thwarted dreams? "And so castles made of sand fall in the sea, eventually."
So, the drillings weren't effective and during the dismantling of the rig it collapsed and has been lying in the desert ever since.

IMPORTANT: There is a sign at the road on both sides and you can see the path to the rig. On the sign there is no hint, that a 4 by 4 is needed. The sand is much harder and compacter than on the side to the beach, but at least your car should be a 4 by 4. For all others you could park your car beside the road and walk the path to the rig or act at your own risk.

Between September and March cormorans use this huge rig for nesting. Drive to the end of the fallen tower where the cache is hidden and log quietly. Use hint or spoiler foto.

The cache is improvisational! I used a TupperWare container, that can take coins and small TB's but the logbook was "built" that day with loose pages and two paper-clips. None of my biros fitted in the box, so please bring your own pen. And perhaps someone could cover the logbook in a small plastic bag. Thanks in advance and happy hunting!

Thank you to Elke and Sandy from Omaruru for their help and support!
