Geocache Description:

AKA "The Flying Types and The Bug Types"

The cache is not at the posted coordinates although it is within a few miles.

As much as you try to avoid it, there comes a time when you have to have that little talk with your kids. Because the subject is so personal and embarrassing, it may seem easier to let others supply the details. However, the risk of getting the wrong information, particularly by cruising the internet, is too great. So you have to sit down with your kids and discuss...breeding. Be assured that if you bring up the subject first, they'll be only too happy to let you know how it's done correctly.

Answer the questions below to determine the correct coordinates of the cache. Each value is a single digit. If the answer has more than one digit, add them together to get the value of each letter. Keep adding digits together until you get a single digit. (Example: if the answer is 435--an impossible answer, by the way--the value is 3.) If the question describes an impossible situation, the answer is zero. All answers refer to the Crystal version.

The cache is at North 37:31.ABC and West 122:16.DEF. It is a moderate sized Tupperware-style container covered with cammo tape. It started life with a few in-theme trade items. The FTF prize is a new copy of Sapphire!

**What is the mother of a Magby? Add the digits of that character's number together to get value A.

**What is the result of breeding a Jynx with an Alakazam? Add the digits of that character's number together to get value B.

**Many characters cannot breed at all. Many cannot breed until they have evolved. Exactly one cannot breed once it has evolved, although it can do so before evolution. Add the digits of that character's number together to get value C.

**If you wish to breed a Tyrogue, you must use one of three fathers. One of these three started its current existence with equal defense and attack. Add the digits of that father's number together to get value D.

**Breeding is done at a particular place on a particular route. Add the digits of the route together to get value E.

**When the egg hatches, the baby's level is always the same. The level is value F.

Notes:

1. Many people wrote to say they liked the original Ask Your Kids, but most were solving the puzzle with a minute or two of Google. I wanted to produce a puzzle where someone who actually knows how to play the game would have an advantage. A kid with the right reference (or lots of experience) will probably find this a two-star cache. An adult relying on Google should find it worth the full four stars.

2. As you might expect, if you turn to the internet as your sole source of information about breeding, you might get inaccurate information. You are hereby warned.

3. The cache can be done as part of one of the bicycle or walking tours in the area, but there is parking nearby. When you enter the parking area next to the cache, you will see a sign that says parking is prohibited. However, the four spaces closest to the cache are marked for public parking. If you are in the right spot, you won't spend more than 5-10 minutes away from the car anyway. You may consider this a confirming hint for the final location.

4. You may wish to confirm coordinates with me.

[Note 11-18-2006: I pulled the cache due to construction in the area. The site is, if anything, worse than before. I don't know what they are putting in, but the cache would have been long gone if I hadn't done something. However, I do want to reactivate it since people keep asking me about it. > You do not have to go to the other side of the fence into the construction zone in order to find it.]

[Note: 3-10-2007: The second incarnation was muggled. See the notes for details if you wish. I just replaced it with a small plastic container "in the usual spot." I don't know why I didn't use this spot for the 2nd incarnation. I am leaving the puzzle the same for those who have already solved it. The puzzle will put you into the middle of construction on the other side of the fence. Don't go there. Stay on the side where you parked. If you are facing the construction from the path to the old cache location, look to the left and you will see the "usual spot." I am being cryptic in case someone is looking at this page in order to muggle the cache if/when it shows up again. The coordinates of "the usual spot" are, more or less, North 37: 31.AB(C-1); West 122: 16.DF(E+1).]
