Geocache Description:

The "G" Men Presents IGO's 12th annual Hike and Seek event being held at Swiss Valley Nature Park in historic Dubuque County.

The headquarters for Hike and Seek 2015 is the Green Ash pavillion just next to the campgrounds for Swiss Valley.  The pavillion is walled in on 3 sides, and has electricity and lights, picnic tables and seats.  Plenty of parking is available on the driveway leading into the campground.  See The "G" Men website for more details including accommodations available in the area.

TIMELINE

Caching will occur for 9 hours on Saturday, September 12 from 8am until 5pm.  Starting at 8am, cache coordinates and descriptions in official diaries will be available at IGO Hike and Seek 2015 headquarters at the posted coordinates, the Green Ash pavillion at the Swiss Valley Campground.  The hosts will have several computers available on site from which the master GPX file may be downloaded -- bring your own special cables if necessary.  Hosts will be available to answer questions throughout the day.  Participants must check back in at headquarters by 5pm.

POINTS/STARS

There is no competition to take place against other cachers, but there will be a certificate of achievement provided to those who find caches throughout the day.  Several levels of achievement will be offered for those who turn in a diary by 5pm.  The points/stars earned are strictly based upon the D/T value of the caches.  Find a 1.5/1.5 cache and be awarded 3 Stars.  Find a 5/5 cache and earn 10 Stars.

Levels are as follows:

White Dwarf - 60 Stars

Red Giant - 120 Stars

Blue Quasar - 200 Stars

Supernova - 300 Stars

Black Pulsar - 400 Stars

Finding, recording caches, and adding up the total points/Stars in the diary are based upon the honor system.  There will be no attempt to verify the caches each participant found.  Certificates and diaries will be returned after supper is eaten.  Participants names will be added to their respective level of achievement on the website 24-48 hours after the completion of the event. There will be 300+ new caches released for the weekend in addition to the existing 500+ or so official geocaching.com caches of various types and sizes in Dubuque county. Links to bookmark lists of these existing caches are available on the right edge of this page. Efforts are being made to publish all the new caches shortly after the beginning of the event sometime Saturday morning, publication by geocaching.com is not guaranteed.

POKER RUN -- A "Poker Run" contest will be run concurrently with the main caching event. Those who wish to participate in the poker run must register for this special event at the time they pick up their diaries.

At that time they must also ante either a cache container or TOTT into the pot. During the day, participants visit any or all of the 6 caches designated for the poker run. These caches contain limited stashes of colored poker chips; registered finders should retrieve one and only one colored chip at each cache they find. At the end of the day at around 5pm when the diaries are turned in, the participant draws up to seven cards from a deck (1 card for each colored chip retrieved) and the dealer records the best poker hand made from those cards in the player's diary before returning the cards to the deck for the next player. If a player does NOT find all the possible poker run caches, he or she can make a $5 donation to IGO per card up to a total of 7 cards to make the best 5-card hand. If a player finds all 6 poker run caches, they will receive the 7th card free. The player who draws the best poker hand wins the whole pot of containers and TOTT's.

At The "G" Men website is a schedule of several other events held throughout the weekend. Check back to this page often for updates.
