This cache is placed just off the Long Path on Schunemunk Mountain.
The cache can be reached from a myriad of trails; Schunemunk is a difficult hike no matter where you park and where you begin the trek. I usually park at N 41 21.802 W 074 06.319 (Route 32 right under the rr bridge), but this is, I believe, a private residence driveway. I have never had any problems parking here, but that doesn't mean there will never be any problems. You can park on Route 32, at N 41 21.642 W 074 06.459 (right under the Pepe and Eddy's Sign). There is a pull off here for the hikers. (Another option is to check out Kernbob's caches, and go from there. This will get your vehicle up the mountain, but put you just a bit further away. Less strenous, more distance, several caches.)
The hike from my original starting point -- at the rr bridge -- begins at an elevation of 450 feet and steadily (and strenuously) climbs to 1364 feet at the cache site -- hence the 4 difficulty rating. You will be following an active rr line for about .3 miles; this is part the of NYNJTC's Long Path, so it is legal to be here.
Since you have already made the trip up, you might as well head over to Long Path meets Jessup Trail Cache, just keep following the Long Path.
This mountain is home to some other very nice caches, and since you are up here, you might as well. . . .
