illinitrekker: Sorry to those that were planning to attend. You will have to find another way to get that coveted souvenir. Maybe it was a bit too brazen to host an event to celebrate my milestone. The notes posted here today, just reinforce a point I made in regard to the event. The game HAS changed -- for the worse. Not going to say any more.

The surprise announcement? I am retiring from geocaching at 10,000 finds (on August 22). That number and the way that I got it says all I need to say. Nobody can steal that from me.

CacheSerious, if you are indeed legit, you can get answers at the monthly cacher meeting every fourth Saturday at Donkey Coffee.

Geocache Description:

As the famous saying goes, "All good things must come to an end," and so it is.

I would imagine anyone that starts a serious geocaching streak has many opportunities to think about where it should end. For me, that really had not been an issue. I just figured I would keep going as long as I could. Honestly, the streak has not been a real burden for me. However, recently, I have been reflecting on the state of geocaching. It is a game of numbers. Given that some of these prominent numbers are suspect, I began to ask myself "is what you are doing really meaningful any more?" For me, the answer was no. Thus, I began to look for an exit and this date made the most sense (for a number of reasons). I will provide an explanation at the event and another big surprise as well.
