This cache is placed between Academic Hall and Kent Library at Southeast Missouri State University. This is the twelfth in a series of caches on the campus, designed to give you a tour of the beautiful campus while also helping you make some quick and easy finds.
This is not a difficult cache, but because of the very high traffic area, I'm setting this to a difficulty 2.
This cache satisfies the following challenge caches:
* "Missouri Geocaching" Spelling Challenge (GC29T4G) - "S"
* Alphabet Soup Challenge - Missouri Style (GC2CCVM) - "S"
* The Missouri DeLorme Challenge (GCQA2X) - page 58
* Missouri County Challenge (GC18GHZ) - Cape Girardeau County
* Missouri "Geocacheology" Degree Challenge (GC4951W) - 3.5 credit hours
Please email with other challenges that you think would be nice to include.
Southeast Missouri State University's Academic Hall was built in 1906. The beautiful southeast Missouri limestone featured in its neo-classical design came from the quarry area where Houck Stadium stands today. The main floor of Academic Hall is adorned by light fixtures from the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
Academic Hall is the oldest standing building on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University, and is the administrative center of the college. The building was designed by Jerome B. Legg of St. Louis, and is capped with a massive copper sheathed dome. For those of you who enjoy finding benchmarks, here's another one for you.
Kent Library, named after long time librarian Sadie Kent, was dedicated November 7th, 1939 and greatly expanded and re-dedicated November 16th, 1968. The library currently holds over 430,000 volumes, about 2000 current subscriptions to paper magazines and journals, and online access to over 20,000 unique journals, magazines and newspapers.
This location is one of my favorite spots on campus. In one direction you can see Academic Hall, with wonderful features outside, and some truly beautiful findings inside. In another direction you can see Kent Library, with a beautiful and peaceful waterfall out front. I have visited this spot many times, enjoying the students walking to and from class, remembering when I was one of those students many years ago, or just waiting patiently for someone very special to come by. And as such, a cache was born.
This cache is a micro. You don't need to leave the pavement. Coordinates for handi-capped parking are listed below. Stealth is required, since this is a very high traffic area when school is in session. Please bring a pen or pencil to sign the log, and please put it back in the exact same spot where you retrieved it. Permission to place this cache was given by the Director of Facilities Management.
