Set atop the meadows of Rickreall ridge, the Rockhouse cave is an idyllic rest stop after a long journey.
You'll need a mountain bike and a strong set of lungs to get to this one. It is a 15-20 mile trip RT, depending on your route.
You can bike pretty close to the cache using the route which passes the Tree Fort and Burma Peak caches. Or use the old rock house cave trail: It starts at the wide burnt bend on 1940(the route to Shake your Money maker). You will have to scramble/bushwack up the ridge on foot but it is a gorgeous open ridgetop ramble once you get out of the reprod. Expect to gain close to 1500 feet elevation on your trip. The cache is a clear plastic container.
These roads are only open to non-motorized vehicles. Thus the reason for the rating. I'm sorry, but you cannot receive credit for this cache if you drive here.
5/21/07 I have confirmed with the landowners ( Forest Capital Partners) that driving motor vehicles beyond the gates on any roads in the Rickreall watershed is considered trespassing, and you will be subject to a fine if you are caught doing so.
