How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

***NOTE*** Attendees of this event will NOT require 4-Wheel drive vehicles or high clearance vehicles to locate and log the caches. Though this is a desert event we want to make it available to ALL cachers. There may be some dirt driving required, but the roads will definitely be accessible by any vehicle.

To take part in the Pirates Booty Road Rally Cache Series Challenge, and be eligible to win the FTF Grand Prize valued at $325 (A.R.V.), you must attend this event. This event will take place at 11:00 AM at the listed coordinates to hand out the information needed to solve the Pirates Booty Road Rally Cache Series Challenge.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend. Thank you.

Also, if you are free the whole weekend, please be sure to attend the 2010 NASA Goldstone Event (GC20H7Q) on the 23rd.

Here 's how it will work:

There will be 19 new caches placed in Barstow and its surrounding areas. These will consist of 18 traditional caches and 1 final mystery cache. The final mystery cache, called Pirates Booty - Davey Jones Locker, will be a foot-locker style (Green) container. This container will be locked using 3 dial-type combination locks. Each lock will be a different color (1 Blue, 1 Purple, 1 Green) and will require a 3 number combination to open.

In 9 of the 18 traditional caches there will be a piece of paper with highlighted numbers on it. The color of the highlighter will correspond to the color of the locks. You must find all 9 (not all 18 unless you choose to do so) caches with the numbers before you can attempt to unlock Davey Jones Locker. Here is how it will work:

When you find a cache with one of the papers, it will have 2 dashes and a number highlighted in either Blue, Green, or Purple. So say you find a paper that has -- 32 -- written in blue ink, then you will know that the number 32 is the second number in the combination for the blue lock, so on and so forth.

Now, to make this worth while, we are awarding a Grand Prize to the FTF with a Approximate Retail Value of $200. To make this fair to everyone and to ensure that the prize is won legitimately, there will be someone stationed at the final cache (Davey Jones Locker) with a digital camera to photograph the FTF in their glory. Also, the actual prize IS NOT located in the locker. Inside the locker there will be a FTF Certificate that will need to be brought to the Route 66 Pizza Bash event (GC21Q8C). Once at the event we will match the holder of the certificate with the person/s in the digital photograph taken at the cache site. If all is a match, the prize will be awarded accordingly. The winner of the Grand Prize will be required to have signed each and every logbook, in either ink or pencil, where the numbers are located. The signatures will be checked and verified. This is to prevent cachers from forming teams and sharing information.

As another incentive, there will be papers stamped with a unique design placed in 4 of the other caches. Those papers, when brought to the event and verified, will win you other great prizes as well.

And as if that wasn't enough, there will be more prizes awarded at the event itself.

Here are the rules:

1. Most importantly, PLEASE OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS. No prize, or smiley, is worth getting a ticket or getting in an accident and hurting yourself or someone else.

2. A strict limit of only one prize per cacher name.

3. You MUST allow a photo to be taken if you are the FTF the final cache. Failure to do so forfeits your prize.

4. Prizes awarded are final. If you decide to trade prizes with another cacher, that is totally acceptable.

5. You MUST be present to win. If you are the holder of the FTF Certificate, and you are not at the event, the prize will go to the second person to sign the log.

6. All participants will be required to sign a Release of Liability Waiver.
