Geocache Description:

SHOE CORNER - File this one under 'bizaare' Some rural areas boast of having strange monsters, crop circles or alien landing sites. St. John, Indiana has "Shoe Corner" This virtual cache is located at a quiet rural intersection a few miles from the Indiana/Illinois state line which become the epicenter of a mysterious, unexplainable phenomenon -- ever-growing piles of shoes. That's right -- mounds and mounds of discarded footwear.

According to locals, "someone" began leaving shoes at the corner about six years ago. No one knows why. It all started with one shoe which appeared at the corner and remained for over a month. Soon a boot appeared next to it. Then another shoe. and another.

Since then thousands of shoes have appeared along the road side at the intersection in small piles and mounds leading locals to name the intersection "Shoe Corner".

The story was recently picked up by the AP Newswire. (]visit link)

To get credit for this cache you must take a picture of yourself (or your GPSr) at the side of the road and post it with your log. (preferably next to a pile of shoes).

Update: I should have mentioned that the shoes are routinely hauled away. So depending on when you visit you may or may NOT actually find shoes scattered about. Usually, however, there are at least a dozen pairs scattered about.

I'm not encouraging you to actually leave a shoe - I'm not assure the fine folks of nearby St. John would approve.
