Geocache Description:

On the bluffs in Pacific Beach.

When I was a kid I lived a couple of houses away from these bluffs. I would spend my summers living on this beach. One weekend some of the locals and myself decided we needed an easier way to get down the cliffs, so we set out to carve a stairway down the bluffs. We had a dozen people with shovels and picks working away at the task. While digging we found some huge whale vertebrae embedded in the sandstone! We also found many shark teeth in the area. We got the stairs done and celebrated with a big beach cookout. The stairs served us for many years until the City of San Diego eventually installed the concrete stairs you see today. This cache is hidden near the stairs in a small plastic jar 3 inches x 1.5 inches painted cammo.
Have fun,
Ruscal and Birdlegs

To build those sandstone stairs today you would need a million dollar environmental impact study, and approval from at least a hundred different agencies, taking at a minimum of a decade to accomplish if ever! Life was great in the fifties, just a one day project for us!
