Geocache Description:

The location is the site of an old community school. Nothing much remains but some open grassy area and a few trees. Back when I was in grad school, my botany classes went plant collecting out here all of the time – so in general, I think that the neighbors are used to folks poking around. =) Lots of good plants to look at if you're one to look. The cache name comes from, in part, the nearby spring that feeds into a tiny creek. Back in the day, water sources, especially fresh water springs, were considered the true jewels in an area. So, while the water's not very sparkly, and you can't wear it on a finger, it is still a treasure! Due to the water, there are lots of mosquitoes and other critters about. The evening that Wile E. and I were out scouting the location, we were walking along the road near the spring and found a viper of some sort in the middle of the road! When Wile E. got close with the walking stick, he even struck at us. Understandable, we were invading his turf! We kept Monster the dog far away, but the snake could easily have been hidden in the grass... You should come prepared for critters! While this is a park and hunt, decent shoes are probably a good idea due to the snake. Just a thought.

This updated version of the cache (due to muggle theft of original stage 1) isn't nearly as tricky as the original version. This makes us sad, but we adjusted and hope that the new version is acceptable.

Walking distance from parking area to stage one to stage two is less than 600 feet and requires moderate to serious bushwacking, depending on your route. You shouldn't have to drive to anyplace else and you definitely don't have to cross any fences. Make sure to wear thorn/poinson ivy appropriate clothes and shoes and be careful where you step - there are a few gullys hidden in the weeds.

Regular trade items in the cache. Have fun!
