Geocache Description:

This cache is the final part of a multi-cache based around Skipton in North Yorkshire, and the third in the series of Yorkshire Towns multi-caches. The other two town multi's are Harrogate Hobble and The Ripon Ramble.

Four other caches need to be found before this one can be done.

The co-ordinates given above are those of the Skipton castle entrance in the centre of Skipton and are only used to position this cache in the correct area for searching.

THIS CACHE IS NOT AT THE ABOVE COORDINATES. The cache is within 10miles (16km) of here and can be found at these co-ordinates:

N 5a° bc.def'

W 00g° hi.jkl

In order to turn those letters into the correct numbers you will have to refer to the following:

Skipton Streets

High Street a=3 c=5 e=7
Swadford Street a=3 c=9 e=2
Broughton Road a=3 c=7 e=9
Newmarket Street a=3 c=8 e=1
Sheep Street a=3 c=6 e=4

Skipton Pubs

Cock & Bottle b=5 d=1 f=2
Narrow Boat b=5 d=6 f=4
Royal Shepherd b=5 d=3 f=8
The Craven b=5 d=2 f=7
Black Horse b=5 d=4 f=2

Occupants of Skipton Castle

Robert de Romille h=5 j=3 l=8
Robert Clifford h=0 j=9 l=2
Lady Ann Clifford h=5 j=1 l=6
George Clifford h=0 j=4 l=3
Lady Margaret Russell h=0 j=4 l=2

Reservoirs

Chelker g=1 i=4 k=1
Embsay g=2 i=1 k=8
Barden g=1 i=8 k=8
Elslack g=2 i=7 k=3
Silsden g=1 i=5 k=4

As you can see there are four groups (skipton streets, skipton pubs, occupants of skipton castle and reservoirs), each with five words. In order to choose the correct word in each group you will have to visit four caches. Taped to the lid of each cache and also in the notebook is the correct word. The caches are

Lurking In the Bushes (Skipton streets)

Quakers were here (Skipton pubs)

On top of the world (well Skipton) (Occupants of Skipton Castle)

The Puddle at Elslack (reservoirs)

When you have all four words, take the appropriate lines from the groups above and substitute the letters in the co-ordinates for the numbers indicated. For example, if the pub was 'The narrow boat' then 5, 6 and 4 would go in place of b, d and f to give:

N 5a° 5c.6e4

W 00g° hi.jkl

Do this for all four and you have yourself a complete set of co-ordinates which will lead you to this cache.

For those who have attempted the Ripon Ramble and Harrogate Hobble's please note that this series of caches are harder..... You will need more stamina, than previous, maybe longer !!!, are you a numbers man (well you will be !) and better GPS skills. Is this a clue !!! Maybe-maybe not.

Please refrain from giving any clues to the final location in your log entries, whether encrypted or not

If you can't find it or are having trouble working out the co-ordinates from my complicated method above then please email me via the [profile] link. Send me the four words you got from the other caches and I'll send you a set of instructions to help you locate this cache.

Good luck and happy hunting

Final Warning. Skipton area is rural, and the associated four caches and this one might be hilly. Expect a climb, and on the day of placing the boxes, tracks to most boxes were muddy and slippery. (Yes even in August !) Wear sensible footwear

Warning

Within the Handicap link there might be information relating to the terrain around the cache position. This could give the cache position away. Do not click below if you do not wish to see this.
