Diese Tour zeigt Dir einen schönen Aussichtspunkt nördlich von Aachen mit einer besonderen 'Felsformation'. Sie dauert ca. 40min + die Zeit, die Aussicht vom Plateau in alle Richtungen zu genießen. Gelegentlich finden raves (Techno Feten) hier statt.
Bei Gewitter ist es hier gefährlich. Wenn Du einen Hund mitnimmst: Ganz oben liegen leider oft viele Scherben.
Die nächstgelegenen Bushaltestellen sind 'Technologiepark' (Linien 34, 47, HZ2) und 'Kohlscheid Bahnhof' (Zug, Bus 27).
Auto: Bieg’ von der Roermonder Str. (L232) unmittelbar nördlich der Araltankstelle ab. Einziger Autozugang zum Gebiet ist nämlich bei N 50° 49.761, E 6° 4.585, fahr’ von dort aus Richtung Westen (Englerthstr.).
Die Suche startet bei N 50° 49.600, E 6° 4.530 (dort oder in der Nähe parken).
Die Tour läßt sich recht gut als Rundweg machen. Überquer’ die Felsen, die über den nassen Talgrund führen und folge den inzwischen verwilderten Pfaden auf das Dach der Landform. Oben (N50° 49.500, E6° 4.400) gibt’s vier Aufgaben:
Aufgabe 1: Stell’ Dich auf’s 'W'. Wieviele Felsen zählst Du bis zum Zentrum von Coalhenge, inclusive dem Felsen, auf dem Du stehst? A =
Aufgabe 2: Stell’ Dich genau in’s Zentrum. Was siehst Du genau in Richtung Süden? Verwende nicht das GPS, sondern die Steine um Dich herum, um die Richtung zu bestimmen!!
Wenn es der 'Mulleklenkes' ist, der große Richtfunk-/Fernsehturm im Aachener Stadtwald am Horizont, dann ist B = 3.
Wenn es der Lousberg ist, der große waldbedeckte Hügel im Aachener Talkessel, dann ist B = 5.
Wenn es der Aachener Dom ist, die große Kathedrale, dann ist B = 1.
Aufgabe 3: Du stehst auf einer bestimmten Landform. In nördliche Richtungen schauend, wieviele ähnliche Formen siehst Du zwischen Nordwest und Ost?
Sind es mehr als 4, dann ist C = 3
Sind es weniger als 4, dann ist C = 7
Aufgabe 4: Au weia, jetzt geht's um Allgemeinbildung... aber das kann ich Euch bei dem Cachenamen nicht ersparen ... also, wo liegt eigentlich Stonehenge, von hier aus betrachtet?
Wenn es plus minus 40km auf dem gleichen Breitengrad liegt, dann ist D = 4
Wenn es auf einem Breitengrad 400km nördlich liegt, dann ist D = 3
Wenn es auf einem Breitengrad 800km nördlich liegt, dann ist D = 5
Checksumme für trübe Tage: A + B + C + D + 4 = Anzahl der (inwischen sämtlich geklauten) richtungsweisenden Metallschilder, die ringsum in die Felsen geschraubt waren.
Im Nordwesten kann man übrigens die Skihalle bei Landgraaf sehen, im äußersten Osten die Wolken, die vom Braunkohlekraftwerk Weisweiler produziert werden und im Suedosten erkennt man den Rand des Aachener Talkessels und die dahinter beginnende Eifel.
Der Cache liegt bei N 50° 49.AB6, E 6° 04.C2D. Bitte geht so mit der Vegetation um, dass es Cache und Umgebung gut geht und das Versteck lange erhalten bleibt.
Der breite Weg führt wieder zurück zur Siedlung.
Auch ein Weg rund um den Haldenfuß ist inzwischen angelegt worden, und einen Cache gibt es dort mit GC48RN7 nun auch. Viel Spaß!

This cache will take you to a nice look-out north of Aachen with a special 'rock formation'. The trip takes about 40min + time you want to enjoy the views to every compass direction.
Sometimes raves (private music parties) take place here.
Do NOT go here during thunderstorms! If you bring along your dog, take care on the top, since this area is often covered with smashed glass.
Nearest public transport stops are 'Technologiepark' (buses 34, 47, HZ2) and 'Kohlscheid Bahnhof' (Trains, bus 27).
By car: Turn off Roermonder Str. (L232) immediately north of Aral gas station. Only car entry point to the area is N 50° 49.761, E 6° 4.585, head west from here (Englerthstr.).
Leave your vehicle/start the search at N 50° 49.600, E 6° 4.530. The trip can be well done as round trip.
Cross the rocks through the wet and follow the paths to the top.
At the top (N 50° 49.500, E 6° 4.400) there are four questions:
1) Stand on the 'W'. How many boulders do you count to the center of Coalhenge, including the one you stand on? A =
2) Stand right in the center. What do you see exactly to the south? Don’t use your GPS but the boulders around you to determine directions!!
If it’s the 'Mulleklenkes', which is the highest microwave/communciations tower in the town forest on the southern horizon, then B = 3
If it’s the Lousberg, which is a big tree-covered hill within the basin Aachen is situated in, then B = 5
If it’s the Aachener Dom, the big cathedral of Aachen, then B = 1.
Question 3: You are standing on a certain landshape. Looking northwards, how many similar forms do you see between the Northwest and the East?
If you count more than 4, then C = 3
If you count less than 4, then C = 7
Question 4: Sorry, got to test your common knowledge... given the name of this cache... now, looking from here, where do you locate Stonehenge?
If it lies plus minus 40km on the same circle of latitude, then D = 4
If it lies on a circle of latitude 400km to the north, then D = 3
If it lies on a circle of latitude 800km to the north, then D = 5
Checksum for misty days: A + B + C + D + 4 = number of (all meanwhile stolen) metal distance plates which were mounted onto the surrounding stone blocks.
If you like the view, look out for the skiing hall Landgraaf in the Northwest, the clouds produced by softcoal power plant Weisweiler to the very east and the rim of the basin Aachen is situated in and the Eifel mountains in the south-eastern background.
The cache is located at N 50° 49.AB6, E 6° 04.C2D. Please try to leave as much of the vegetation as possible untouched to support the well-being of this cache and its surroundings, thanks.
The round trip continues, just follow the broad pathway across a wooden bridge back to the houses.
