Brookside Park near Dover, PA, celebrated its 100-year anniversary
in 2001. On the south side of the stream that runs through the park
is the roadbed of the trolley line that ran from York to Dover in
the early 1900’s. The park was purchased by local weight lifting
legend Bob Hoffman in 1940. Three years later he added a 1927
carousel featuring over 50 hand carved animals. Although the
carousel was sold in the late 1970’s, the round carousel building
still stands.
The park entrance is located on Fox Run Rd east of Dover. This
cache has been changed to a one part cache. As a young boy, I spent
many hours exploring the park and the surrounding woods. I remember
looking in the windows of the locked carousel building and seeing
the hand carved animals.
